| Senior Methods As part of the teacher preparation program at Texas A&M University, students seeking a Middle Grades Mathematics and Science Specialist (4-8) certificate have field-based teaching experiences throughout their program. During the senior year, students have the opportunity to observe and teach students with the guidance of a mentor teacher in local public schools. Interns are placed in middle grades schools in Bryan ISD and College Station ISD. As part of the Senior Methods experience interns are in schools two days a week for 10 weeks. Methods courses and other senior level courses are taught on a third and fourth day. Interns teach lessons in both mathematics and science. Interns also create an i-Folio. This internet portfolio allows interns to document their pre-service teaching experiences and show their competence in teaching mathematics and science. A university coordinator provides guidance to interns and to mentors throughout the semester to facilitate the school-university partnership and field-based course activities. Mentors are involved in on-going assessment of intern performance, providing weekly feedback to interns and formal evaluations of teaching performance to the university coordinator during the 10 week period.
